Thousands of Venezuelans have mobilized this Saturday, both within the country and abroad, in a massive protest against the alleged electoral fraud committed by Nicolás Maduro in the recent elections.
The demonstrations, which have taken place in various cities around the world, aim to denounce the lack of transparency and demand the recognition of the true winner, Edmundo González.
Opposition leader María Corina Machado addressed thousands of demonstrators who gathered at Plaza de Las Mercedes in Caracas despite escalating repression, conveying a message of hope and resistance.
"You are the heroes of this story. Every Venezuelan who has not given up, who knows that we will win. Edmundo González is the elected president, and our flag of Venezuela is the symbol of freedom. Venezuela will be free very soon," he stated.
At another point in his speech, he added: “The people are with us. Have the conviction that this is bigger than us. It is a fight for good, for human dignity. Let us proceed with determination, resilience, and confidence. We are united and we know what we need to do.”
The protests on Saturday were not limited to Venezuela, where Nicolás Maduro was declared the winner of the elections on Friday, despite published reports indicating that Edmundo González was the clear victor by more than a 30-point lead.
In Atlanta, a crowd gathered to express their support, proclaiming: "BRILLIANT ATLANTA! There are 7,156,462 reasons to continue raising our voices alongside elected president Edmundo González and leader María Corina Machado. We know we won; Venezuela won!"
In Miami, Venezuelans showed their solidarity: “We remain united and stronger than ever! Venezuelans in Miami know that although they were prevented from voting, they won, and today they raise their voices for the more than 7 million who did vote.”
From Berlin, the protesters sang the national anthem with fervor: "DOWN WITH CHAINS! Berlin adorns itself in tricolor in support of Venezuela. Let's fight back!"
In Argentina, specifically in Neuquén, Venezuelans also made their presence felt: "WE WON! and the Venezuelans in Neuquén know it. With our hearts in Venezuela and in support of the elected president Edmundo González. Let’s take action!"
The global mobilization will continue to denounce electoral fraud until democracy is restored in Venezuela, the protesters stated.
At the same time, international pressure is increasing for the recognition of the will of the Venezuelan people.
On the eve, several countries including Argentina, Peru, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Uruguay, and the United States recognized González as the legitimate elected president of Venezuela.
Maduro, for his part, has unleashed a severe crackdown that has resulted in at least 17 deaths and the detention of over 1,000 protesters in recent hours.
