Cuban athletes Leyanis Pérez and Liadagmis Povea will be in the triple jump final in Paris.

Cuban athletes Leyanis Pérez Hernández and Liadagmis Povea secured their place in the women's triple jump final at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

In the classification, which concluded a few minutes ago at the Stade de France, Pérez Hernández recorded the best mark of the day with a jump of 14.68 meters, demonstrating his strong candidacy for the Olympic gold.

For her part, Liadagmis Povea achieved the third best jump with a distance of 14.39 meters, consolidating her position among the best.

The Spanish Ana Peleteiro also qualified for the final with a jump of 14.36 meters, placing fifth overall.

Leyanis Pérez had a shaky start, beginning with a foul on her first attempt and recording 14.29 meters on her second jump.

However, in her third attempt, she showed why she is one of the favorites to win gold, with her impressive jump of 14.68 meters.

The final will take place tomorrow, August 3, at 20:20 (local time) at the Stade de France.

In Cuba time, the final will be at 14:20 hours.

Natives of Pinar del Río, Pérez and Povea have a great track record in Cuban sports. Last year, they qualified comfortably for the final of the triple jump world championship.

Cuba has had a poor performance in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Their best boxers were eliminated from competition, and many of their medal hopes have already been disqualified.

The Cienfuegos athlete Erislandy Álvarez won Cuba's first medal at Paris 2024 on Thursday, after defeating Thai Bunjong Sinsiri and securing his spot in the semi-finals of the 63.5-kilogram category in Olympic boxing.

Álvarez, world runner-up in Tashkent 2023, was immense from start to finish in his quest to secure the bronze medal and gave Sinsiri a true lesson, winning the unanimous decision (5-0) from the judges in the ring located at the Paris Nord Arena.
