Communal workers celebrate as garbage overflows in the streets of Santiago de Cuba.

Everything happens just when the epidemiological situation on the island is quite complicated, with the Oropouche virus and dengue affecting a healthcare system marked by crisis.

Government authorities in Santiago de Cuba decided to acknowledge the work of the workers from Servicios Comunales as garbage piles up in the streets of the eastern province.

The independent journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada made the denunciation on the social media platform Facebook, reporting that they had "an artistic-cultural gala with the participation of comedian Kike Quiñones, and then with the placement of tents and beer thermoses in the vicinity of the Heredia Theater."

Mayeta stated that everything happened "while the city sinks in garbage" and the management is ineffective.

"While they dance to the rhythm of the Santiago conga and drink a few pitchers of beer, the garbage continues to wait to be collected, and people wait for their problems to be solved, something that for now, seems not to see a happy ending," wrote the activist.

Just a few days ago, residents of the Altamira and Villalón neighborhoods reported the unsanitary conditions of the places where they live, due to the accumulation of waste in the streets because the municipal services do not carry out the systematic garbage collection.

The situation has been ongoing for several months, as in April a man denied that Santiago de Cuba is one of the cleanest cities in the country, while also showing and denouncing the dump sites that abound in the historical center of the city.

In the video, the voice of a male person can be heard walking through various streets of the city while filming the accumulation of solid waste mixed with wastewater, as posted by the communicator Mayeta on Facebook.
