The population of Santiago de Cuba is experiencing great indignation and frustration when trying to carry out any procedures at the Civil Registry Office, as they are forced to stand in long lines starting early in the morning without any guarantee of receiving the required service.
Journalist Yosmany Mayeta explained on Facebook that the mentioned institution, located on San Francisco Street, only collects 30 ID cards a day, distributed as five per service, even before opening its doors.
"If you are number six in line to obtain a birth certificate, correct errors, a death certificate, etc., tomorrow you will need to wake up much earlier to be among the first five people for the procedure you intend to carry out," the communicator stated, highlighting the bureaucratic issues present in that institution in Santiago.
"If you’re not careful, you could end up spending an entire year waiting in line to obtain a document from the civil registry," Mayeta pointed out, suggesting that many individuals involved in the process of obtaining Spanish citizenship have had to resort to bribery as the only way to expedite the procedures at the registry offices.
Finally, it was reported that after collecting the 30 identity cards, "they do not promise to collect any more for the rest of the day," further highlighting the difficulties faced by individuals seeking services at this institution.
The chaotic situation at the Civil Registry in Santiago de Cuba is not new.
Last June, a video circulated on social media showing a chaotic line at that institution.
The images reflected the desperation and suffering of the people who gathered in the area under the intense sun, seeking to complete essential procedures for civilian life.
"A desperate people, hungry and under the sun," one of the citizens says in the video, capturing the widespread anguish of those present.
