The organizers of the Paris 2024 Olympics placed a large poster at the entrance of the Eiffel Tower featuring the image of Cuban athlete Mijaín López on Tuesday.
The fight for the crown in the 130-kilogram category of Greco-Roman wrestling at the Paris 2024 Olympics is a spectacle that is generating a lot of interest on social media.
On August 6, López will fight in Paris to win his fifth gold medal at the Olympic Games. He is facing another Cuban, Yasmani Acosta, who will fight representing Chile.
Mijaín López could also set new records, such as being the first athlete to win five consecutive golds in the same specialty and becoming the oldest champion in the history of the games, a title currently held by Adolf Lindfors, gold medalist in Antwerp 1920.
In recent statements, López warned that he is ready to fight for his victory, but he will not let his guard down at any moment, as he acknowledges the skills of his opponent.
"Wait for the fifth Olympic gold of Mijaín López," said the Cuban athlete and invited all his followers to enjoy the match this Tuesday.
Cuban journalist Pavel Otero recalled that López's fight is scheduled to take place around 2:00 PM Cuba time, but he warned that "it is an approximate time because it can be minutes before or after, depending on the duration of the previous fights."
The wrestlers Gabriel Rosillo and Yusneylis Guzmán will compete in the semifinals starting at 12:15 PM.
