Telesur news presenter resigns after electoral fraud in Venezuela

"I resigned from my job as a news anchor at TeleSUR due to the electoral scandal in Venezuela," wrote Leandro Lutzky on his social media.

The Argentine news presenter Leandro Lutzky resigned from the Venezuela-based television network TeleSUR and published details of his departure, citing allegations of electoral fraud committed by the ruling Nicolás Maduro.

Through a video shared on his social media, Lutzky explained that the main reason for his resignation was his disagreement with the coverage of the recent electoral process in the South American country.

“I resigned from my job as a news presenter at TeleSUR because of the electoral scandal in Venezuela. On the flight back, a Venezuelan migrant made me promise that I would make a video telling about it,” the journalist stated.

Lutzky noted that it was impossible for him to continue presenting news under these circumstances. "I couldn't stand in front of the cameras and say that the electoral system is the best and most secure in the world amidst a flood of allegations of electoral fraud that have still not been adequately addressed," he explained.

The journalist also commented that he waited several days before recording the video, hoping that the Venezuelan authorities would publish the electoral records, which did not happen.

"What did happen is that the president of the National Electoral Council, Elvis Amoroso, went to the Supreme Court of Justice to deliver the required electoral documentation, but it was something that was not made public," he added.

He also stated that he did not find it ethical to continue appearing on the channel, where the programming responds to the interests of the Venezuelan government. "That would legitimize such an electoral scandal," he emphasized.

"I am not the one who should define what the best or worst government for Venezuela is. The population decided when they exercised their right to vote, the majority chose María Corina Machado," he emphasized.

He added that his work in Venezuela was to observe the situation in the country firsthand and "do international journalism."

Lutzky started at TeleSUR in February of this year, according to his LinkedIn profile. He was the host of the program "Te lo Cuento," which was a daily summary of global current events. He also presented news in other news segments.
