Cuban taekwondo athlete Rafael Alba wins bronze in Paris 2024.

Cuban taekwondo athlete Rafael Alba repeated his performance from Tokyo 2020 and secured the bronze medal in the +80 kilograms division at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Alba defeated the Croatian Iván Šapina 2-0 at the Grand Palais in Paris.

"The Cuban was able to recover emotionally in time from the defeat in the quarterfinals against the British Caden Cunningham. Thus, in the repechage, he defeated Abdoul Issoufou with a tight 2-1, and in this semifinal, he won with great class against the Croatian Sapina," recalled the site olympics.com.

World champion in 2013 and 2019, these were his third Olympic Games.

With this medal, Cuba anchors in 29th place in the medal table so far, totaling two golds, one silver, and five bronzes.

Earlier on the same day, Yarisleidis Cirilo Duboys became the first Cuban woman to win an Olympic medal in sprint canoeing.

The paddler from Guantánamo won the bronze in the C1 200 meters event in Paris, in a race decided by a photo finish between the Canadian Katie Vincent (gold) and the American Nevin Harrison (silver).

This Sunday, August 11, the Closing Ceremony of the Games will take place at the Stade de France. The gala will be called "Records" and will feature the participation of more than a hundred artists, including acrobats, dancers, and circus performers.
