The TikTok profile "La Cuba que se nos fue" shared remastered images where Havana can be seen in the 1940s.
The video moved many users due to the contrast between the country's situation when compared to the urban landscapes of today.
"The difference is abysmal. How beautiful Cuba used to be!" said one person. Another Cuban commented, "I pray to God that, before I leave this world, I can see my country free from the regime that has destroyed everything."
These photographs and videos showcase the beauty of Cuban cities in a past era and have generated a wave of nostalgia among those who see them, amidst the current collapses and deterioration of the island.
The images from the 1940s show clean and orderly streets, reflecting an era when hygiene and neatness were distinctive features of Cuban cities, something that is missed today.
In contrast, current urban landscapes are marked by destruction and abandonment, with debris and dumps at most corners.
"It is not the Cuba that was taken from us, it is the one we let be taken away," said a user upon seeing the video of what once was their country.
