A violent incident in which a man attacked a woman with a machete in front of her young son occurred this Monday in the Petrocasas neighborhood, in the Abel Santamaría Urban Center, Santiago de Cuba, according to reports on social media.
The attacker, allegedly on "prison leave," assaulted the victim, identified as Dargis Vargas Ferrer, 28 years old, leaving her in serious condition before she was urgently taken to a medical center, according to journalist Yosmany Mayeta on Facebook.

The communicator shared a video showing a crowd gathered around one of the two-story buildings as an ambulance arrives, while a woman is heard saying that the vehicle arrived late, apparently because the victim had already been taken to a healthcare facility.
The same person indicated that there were at least six patrol cars at the location.
According to Mayeta, a resident told her that the victim "was taken away in serious condition, and there is a sea of people here waiting for the assailant to be brought out."
In this regard, it was noted that several patrol cars surrounded the building where the assailant was hiding, waiting for the right moment to extract him without letting the crowd take justice into their own hands.
Mayeta indicated that the health status of the young woman who was assaulted is unknown, although she is still alive. The personal details of the attacker are also not known, nor are the reasons that led him to commit this violent act. However, she specified that the victim and her family had "already filed a complaint for threats."
In July, a young man attacked his mother and wife with a machete in Santiago de Cuba, necessitating their urgent transfer to the Military Hospital.
Mayeta reported on Facebook that the alleged attacker, identified as Leonel García Aguilera, also injured his brother and two friends who were at the residence at the time.
That same month, a young woman from Santiago de Cuba who was stabbed by her partner had to undergo emergency surgery twice.
In June, the head of a youth computer club in Santiago de Cuba was brutally stabbed.
