On Tuesday afternoon, an explosion occurred at the Carlos Marx Cement Factory in Cienfuegos, which resulted in one worker dead, five injured, and three others trapped. This was presumably due to the explosion causing the collapse of a hopper, which kept them pinned down until firefighters rescued them.

The deceased worker was identified as Raymundo Narciso Sarría, 61 years old, who worked as a Cuban electrician for the Engineering Construction Company No. 6 (Ecoing-6).

According to the official newspaper Granma, he died when a spill of materials occurred in one of the hoppers of this factory.

Preliminary versions pointed to the explosion of a boiler as the possible cause of the accident, while others mentioned a spill of material in a tower, but so far there is no official confirmation and the investigation continues.
