Mislady Morell, who identified herself as a cousin of Raysa Rodríguez, the 50-year-old woman who was murdered along with her son and two others, one of whom was a child, last week in Ceballos, Ciego de Ávila, has demanded justice for the victims and asserts that those responsible: "won't even pay with the death penalty for what they did."
In a moving video posted on Facebook this week, Morell offered shocking details of what happened.
Amid tears, she said that very little has emerged about the tremendous "abuse they committed against those four people."
"I am so upset, I have so much pride, so much anger, so much helplessness [...] What those people did is beyond words. What they did has no precedent," said Morell, who stated that she received photos of her relatives in their respective coffins and that those images touched her very deeply.
"That cousin grew up with my sister and me. She was a very close cousin. When my mom passed away, she would come every weekend to spend time with my sister and me at my grandparents' house. When she didn't come, I would go to her house," she added, visibly emotional in reference to the close bond that united her with her cousin.
Although Mislady resides in the United States, she alluded to the harrowing details of the horror experienced by the victims, details that she received through the accounts of their relatives in Ceballos.
"Every news that reaches me is stronger and more painful. They tortured the little boy who is still alive, they cut off his legs, they made cuts on his head. It's very overwhelming, I still can't process this," said the woman, who was very distressed by the level of cruelty towards the four-year-old boy, a neighbor of her cousin, who was reportedly tortured to make the mother reveal the hiding place of the money that was stolen.
"My teenage cousin's son was opened from top to bottom, pecked all over [...] I am so angry and distressed," Mislady Morell managed to conclude before cutting the broadcast in tears.
The quadruple murder
In a truly shocking event with few precedents in Cuba, on the morning of August 24, two women who were neighbors and their two children, both minors and one of them, as already mentioned, just four years old, were brutally murdered.
The incident occurred between 6:00 and 7:00 a.m. last Saturday, in the "old bakery" neighborhood of Ceballos, after the father of the four-year-old left to work on his farm.
The motive for the crime was the theft of one million pesos that one of the families kept in their home.
Raysa Rodríguez (50 years old) and Lester Rivadeneira Rodríguez (17) went to help Yamila Reyes Tamayo (29) and her son Richard Dariel Núñez (4) when they heard the screams from a neighboring house.
The four were brutally murdered, as has already been described.
The incident has caused deep shock among Cubans, who cannot believe such a level of violence.
In light of the shock caused by the quadruple murder, the official press, which usually tends to ignore cases of murder and other serious crimes, had no choice but to speak out.
Although initially a pair of 26-year-old twin siblings was pointed out as the alleged murderers, this week the Ministry of Interior (MININT) referred to a single arrest, but did not identify the killer by name.
