Last August, Cuban children spotted a manatee swimming in the Almendares River, under the iron bridge of Havana, and captured beautiful images of the animal.

However, amidst the food crisis on the island, several individuals have expressed concern for the fate of the gentle visitor and have urged local residents not to "eat it."

In 2023, a pair of manatees surprised Cubans passing by the vicinity of the Matanzas viaduct.
