The Cuban boxer Erislandy Lara knocked out American Danny García this Saturday in the ninth round and successfully defended his World Middleweight Championship title from the World Boxing Association (WBA).

In the co-main event of the card Saúl "Canelo" Álvarez versus Edgar Berlanga at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, Lara achieved his fourth consecutive victory to reaffirm his place in the elite of the sport, despite being 41 years old.

The fight was not appealing to the audience; in fact, those present booed at several moments. However, "The American Dream" landed powerful punches in the ninth round against a García who decided to "throw in the towel."

It is worth mentioning that the fighter with Latin roots had been inactive for two years and was seen lacking rhythm, far from the athletic form that once had him among the best boxers in the world.

After this result, Lara has 31 wins, three losses, and 19 knockouts before the limit, while "Swift" holds 35 victories, four defeats, and 21 knockouts, according to Box Rec.

In the fight of the night, “Canelo” (62-2-2) defeated Berlanga (22-1) on the scorecards (117-110, 118-109, and 118-109) to retain his WBC, WBO, WBA, and The Ring titles.
