The Observatory of Cultural Rights denounced on Wednesday the detention of the Cuban dissident intellectual Jenny Pantoja Torres by orders of the political police.
Since yesterday, Pantoja has been under constant harassment from State Security, with her home surrounded by a control device from the Ministry of the Interior.
The academic, who has defended her right to freedom of expression, rejected the blockade of her home and stated that freedom of movement was a fundamental right.
"I will leave because they do not have the legal authority to stop me. The day we all fight firmly for our civil rights, they will no longer be able to hold on to power," he stated.
After this event, she would have been detained.
He previously emphasized that any document signed under pressure is invalid and that he will not accept injustices that make him an accomplice to those who perpetuate them.
The Observatory called for civic solidarity and for human rights organizations to safeguard Pantoja, in a context where repression against dissenters has increased in Cuba, especially on the 18th of each month, a date that has become a symbol of the struggle for rights and free expression in the country.
The recent wave of repression on the island includes the expulsion of intellectual Alina B. López from the UNEAC and the resignation of Jorge Fernández Era, both of whom have been persecuted in recent months by the regime.
