After being hospitalized for just over a month and a half, the first triplets born in Villa Clara were discharged this Wednesday upon reaching the required weight.

José Antonio, José Miguel, and Alicia, who were born on August 2, along with their parents Aracelys Fleites León and Yosami Álvarez Mora, and the rest of the family, are now beginning the exciting adventure of returning home and building their life together.

According to the state-owned newspaper Vanguardia, that was the best gift Aracelys received, as she was celebrating her birthday that very day.

In their home in Calabazar de Sagua, municipality of Encrucijada, a new stage begins for this couple who, after 15 years of longing, finally experience the joy of becoming parents.

Fleites spent more than four months hospitalized, from her arrival as a patient until the birth of her children: "After the birth, the little ones spent ten days in Neonatology, then they were moved to the Skin to Skin room, and today we finally returned home, in Calabazar," the mother excitedly summarized.

Since then, he recounts, there is not much difference: "José Antonio continues to take the lead, the first to be born, the one who screams the most, restless and the one who gains weight the quickest. On his part, José Miguel, ever since he was in the belly, is very calm. He takes his milk and adapts to any setting, and Alicia provides a middle ground, sometimes very passive and at other times showing her warrior side. However, at three in the morning, she is like a clock and it takes a lot of effort for her to sleep. After that moment, she returns to tranquility," Fleites noted.

However, although today there is only happiness, the journey to give birth was quite rocky. After trying all available infertility treatments and seeing no results, they went through the legal and consent processes in the country to undergo in vitro fertilization abroad.

The preparations to welcome the triplets at home have been intense, as the family has devoted itself to making the house suitable for the three new members, carrying out renovations, painting, and organizing their belongings.

The father, who is a farmer, is especially excited as he looks forward to feeling the warmth of his children when they return from work.

Before leaving the hospital, the mother expressed her gratitude to everyone who contributed to the birth and well-being of the babies and herself.

He highlighted the constant attention, even outside of regular hours, from the doctors and obstetricians, who were available to address any questions or concerns that arose.

Despite being a doctor and obstetrician herself, she confessed that experiencing motherhood as a first-time mom has been challenging and, at times, terrifying.

Regarding the evolution of the triplets, the doctor in charge of their care in the Skin-to-Skin room, Olga María López Popa, confirmed to Vanguardia that the babies have evolved favorably, with an appropriate weight gain.

Although José Antonio and Alicia initially required additional treatments before being discharged, all the babies have surpassed the necessary weight to be ready to go home.

They will undergo strict medical supervision in the Neurodevelopment consultation and other specialties to ensure their healthy growth, he pointed out.

Finally, Dr. José Antonio Marrero Martínez, who assisted in the delivery, expressed his honor in being the godfather of the triplets and responsible for taking them home.

This event, according to the doctor, has been one of the most significant moments of his professional career.

Since 2020, the "Mariana Grajales" Hospital had not heard the simultaneous cry of triplets. On that occasion, Dayana Sifontes Linates gave birth to three sons, named Ángel Daniel, Joel Davis, and Danis Joel.

One of the latest reported births of triplets in Cuba occurred last April, when the first cesarean delivery of triplets of the year took place at the Vladimir Ilich Lenin University Hospital in the province of Holguín, with the mother and the newborns in perfect health.
