The authorities of the Bahamas repatriated 19 Cuban migrants on Friday who had illegally left the country by sea.
The group was transferred by plane to José Martí International Airport in Havana.
According to information shared on Twitter by the Ministry of the Interior (MININT), with this repatriation, a total of 1,069 irregular Cuban migrants have been deported in 70 return operations from countries in the region so far this year.
No details were provided about the repatriated rafters to the Island.
At the end of August, the Bahamas returned 16 irregular migrants to Cuba by air.
The group consisted of nine men, four women, and three minors, all from Villa Clara. They left as rafters and were intercepted by the Bahamian authorities.
One of them "was transferred to the investigative body for being identified as a suspected perpetrator of a crime," reported MININT.
Frequently, the United States Coast Guard (USCG) rescues Cuban migrants in the territorial waters of the Bahamas who are attempting to reach the United States and sends them to Bahamian territory, following the usual protocol.
On August 30, the USCG transferred 13 Cuban immigrants to the authorities of the Caribbean country after rescuing them from Elbow Cay, where they had been stranded for three days.
The Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) requested assistance from the USCG to carry out the rescue, which was successfully completed.
