Cuban mother claims they took away the milk diet from her son with a tumor: "The little crap they give him."

A Cuban mother reported that her 10-year-old son, who has a tumor in his right eye, has had his dietary regimen (only milk, no meat) expire and they informed her that it cannot be renewed.

Eliannis Ramírez did a livestream on her Facebook profile and explained that her child suffers from a plexiform neurofibroma, secondary glaucoma due to the tumor, type 1 neurofibromatosis, and also has a hole in the skull, "waiting for treatment that the MINSAP has not yet purchased."

"It turns out that my son's diet has expired, with all the diagnoses he has (...). I need someone from the government to explain to me how Damir is going to drink milk," she demanded.

Outraged, the woman detailed that the doctors treating the child tell her they cannot issue a diet because his tumor is benign, without considering the damage he has and that he suffers from a very rare chronic illness.

"Now I have to chase after the doctor, to see if she can come up with a diet for me, because everything is like this, everything is an invention, a way to get things, a purchase; if you don't pay money, you don't solve anything," he emphasized.

"I knew they were going to tell me no, because my son's tumor is benign. But it is very aggressive, damn it, it has his skull destroyed. How are they going to take away his milk, how are they not going to renew his diet, the little crap they give him? Don't take it away, damn it!" he demanded.

Hours after sharing the video, Eliannis reported that the doctor at the clinic finally renewed the diet, but the Office of Food Control and Distribution (OFICODA) did not accept it because that type of diet can only be authorized by a specialist.

"But what specialist? For the type of illness Damir has, there is none in Cuba. It's all a mess and a fabrication," he questioned.

In another post, the woman asked someone to sell her an (original) diet model so that it could be renewed because in the OFICODA "there's no little paper, there's no shame."

In September of last year, this mother reported the precariousness of the public health system in Cuba, desperate about the situation of her child, who has been waiting for a surgery that never arrives for years.

In an online message, she asked the ruler Miguel Díaz-Canel how much she needs to pay for the surgery on the child.

"Please, President Díaz-Canel, tell me how much the operation for my son's eye tumor costs in one of the private clinics in Cuba. I want to know in order to raise money and see if I can get him operated on. If I have to beg for donations, I will. Just tell me the price because I know that those clinics do have medical staff and resources," he said.

Eliannis' son is named Geobel Damir Ortiz Ramírez and he lives in Bayamo, but he is treated at the Juan Manuel Márquez pediatric hospital in Marianao.
