The young Jesús Lorenzo Ferro Vigoa, who was a victim of a motorcycle theft and was later hit by a vehicle in San Cristóbal, Artemisa, last Sunday, is now out of danger.
According to his uncle, Julio César Blanco González, in a Facebook post, Ferro is currently at his brother's house in Havana, awaiting a medical intervention based on the doctors' assessments.
The incident occurred on the highway bridge of the mentioned municipality, and in less than 24 hours, the police managed to recover the stolen motorcycle, it was reported.
Blanco, on behalf of the family, thanked everyone for their support, including some who were strangers, and expressed his hope that the attacker will soon be apprehended and brought to justice.
Ferro, 25 years old, was the victim of a violent assault in which the attacker not only stole his motorcycle but also ran him over with it.
The incident occurred last Sunday around 11 AM in San Cristóbal, Artemisa. The alleged attacker and thief has been identified as Mikelish Salgado, from Candelaria in the same province. This information was shared on social media by Julio César Blanco González, the uncle of the assaulted young man, whose name has not been disclosed.
Blanco detailed the specifics of the incident in several Facebook posts, where he has repeatedly warned that Salgado remains at large somewhere in the area after fleeing on his victim's motorcycle.
"This is the story of a young man who, to support his children, takes rental rides on his motorcycle, always with a smile. That smile was extinguished by a murderous thief who attacked him at 11 a.m. to steal his bike and then ran over him," Blanco reported on Sunday.
"The young man is currently praying with serious injuries and has been sent to Havana. The killer is named Mikeli Salgado. This happened in San Cristóbal, Artemisa; if you see him, please call the police as he is on the run."
In other posts shared in groups on the social network, he specified that his nephew "was trying to make a living (with his motorcycle) to feed his little ones, one a few months old and the other three years old," and that his attacker "hit him and ran him over" with the vehicle.
In Cuba, violent incidents involving the theft of electric motorcycles are common, due to their high demand and the value they have gained in the black market because of the scarcity of transportation.
In August, five people—four men and one woman—were arrested in the Arroyo Naranjo municipality of Havana for violently stealing an electric motorcycle from a 72-year-old woman "who is trying to make some money by working hard," according to the pro-government Facebook profile El Cubano Fiel.
The source reported that the elderly woman—apparently very active despite her age—was at the taxi stand in La Palma with her motorcycle on the morning of this Thursday when a young woman rented it heading to the Eléctrico neighborhood in the same municipality.
At the beginning of the month, the Cuban Rachel Zamora Ríos reported the theft of her motorcycle, an incident that occurred while she was dropping her daughter off at school.
The robbery occurred in front of the Ignacio Agramonte School in San José de las Lajas, the capital of Mayabeque Province. According to witnesses, the perpetrator was an elderly, slender man.
