Fire on a Turkish freighter in Havana Bay leaves eight workers injured

The fire occurred during welding work on a barge in the Bay of Havana, resulting in eight injuries, including a Turkish citizen in critical condition.

Eight people were injured on Thursday morning due to an accident caused by a fire while welding work was being carried out on a barge located in Havana Bay.

The Minister of Energy and Mines, Vicente de la O Levy, announced on the social media platform X that the fire was quickly brought under control and that the injured workers were receiving medical attention.

Levy shared an image showing one of the injured workers receiving medical attention. In addition to the presence of the Minister of Energy and Mines, Commander Ramiro Valdés Menéndez was also at the hospital.

Jair Morales Rodríguez, a party official, explained on the social media platform X that the accident occurred on a flatbed truck that is not intended for power generation but is used for housing and logistics for the Turkish company Karen.

In addition, it was reported that "so far there are no fatalities, but there are eight injured workers, one from Turkey in serious condition and at risk of death."

However, the Cuban Electric Union stated in a Facebook post that the accident occurred "at the KPS-57 Floating Plant located in Havana Bay."
