Cuban authorities remove remains of whale stranded on Baracoa beach.

The cetacean arrived this Thursday at Playa Baracoa, Artemisa. Some Cubans tried to help it return to the sea, but they were unsuccessful.


Cuban authorities removed the remains of a whale that was stranded at Playa Baracoa, Artemisa, this Thursday.

In videos shared on social media, it can be seen how residents of Baracoa tried to help the animal return to the ocean, but they were unsuccessful. The whale died on the beach.

The firefighters, police, and members of the Armed Forces went to Playa Baracoa to remove the animal and take its remains out of the public space.

The neighbors of the community helped with the work and were dismayed by the death of such a beautiful animal.

The cetacean spotted at Playa Baracoa was a Cuvier's beaked whale (Ziphius cavirostris), which is distinguished by its ability to dive to extreme depths.

This is one of the most impressive marine mammals. Scientific studies indicate that these whales can reach depths of up to 3,000 meters and remain underwater for more than two hours.

It is not common to spot them in shallow waters. Their appearance in Playa Baracoa has generated both surprise and sadness among the residents, who regretted not being able to save it.

The death of this majestic animal leaves the community with a sense of helplessness, but also of admiration for having witnessed such an unusual event. The sad farewell of the whale is a reminder of the importance of protecting marine life.
