The government of Havana has decided to suspend boat transportation services in Havana Bay starting at 3:40 PM this Tuesday due to the worsening weather conditions caused by Hurricane Milton, which is quite intense.
The measure will remain in place until conditions allow for the safe resumption of the service, noted the Facebook page Transportación Habana TH.
The institutional profile also urged the public to stay informed about the situation's status and updates regarding the resumption of services.
According to the latest report from the Forecast Center of the Institute of Meteorology (INSMET), issued at noon on October 8, Hurricane Milton has weakened to a category four on the Saffir-Simpson scale, with maximum sustained winds of 240 kilometers per hour and higher gusts.
The institution warned that western Cuba is on alert due to the approach of the powerful cyclone, which will bring winds exceeding 50 km/h and flooding to the island.
In September, the Provincial Transport Company of Havana was forced to suspend the service of the Regla ferry due to adverse weather conditions caused by Hurricane Helene.
According to the statement, the service suspension remained in effect as long as the adverse weather conditions persisted.
That tropical system also led the Cuban Maritime Administration (AMC) to suspend navigation in the Gulf of Batabanó due to the worsening hydrometeorological conditions.
In June, the Provincial Transport Company of Havana announced the suspension of passenger ferry service in Havana Bay due to a buildup of debris following heavy rains in the area.
