Ricardo Rolle, husband of the iconic Cuban athlete Ana Fidelia Quirós, passed away in Italy, reported sports journalist Julita Osendi this Friday.
In her Facebook profile, the reporter stated that Rolle, an Italian entrepreneur, shared a 26-year relationship with the "Caribbean Storm," since they met in 1997 at the International Trade Fair of ExpoCuba.
Rolle and Quirós, formerly Quirot, formed a family and had two children, Carla Fidelia and Alberto.
"I met my husband in 1997 at ExpoCuba during the International Trade Fair that takes place in November. We, the Cuban athletes, represented Adidas and we were there at the stand promoting the brand. He passed by, asked me for an autograph, invited me for a coffee and conversation, and asked me to visit his stand where he was showcasing his products. That's how we started getting to know each other and we dated for a long time; that’s how we've been together for 26 years," the iconic Cuban athlete once shared.
Osendi does not clarify the causes of death but notes that Rolle suffered from a "cruel disease" that deteriorated him in a short time.
In an interview for CiberCuba last May, Quirós told Osendi: "Thank God I found a magnificent man with whom I have built a family: my first daughter Carla Fidelia, who was born on the day of the Virgin of Charity of El Cobre, the Patroness of Cuba, studied Classical Ballet, and was a dancer with the National Ballet of Cuba. She is currently in an Acting School in Spain; she is 24 years old, studying and working."
The youngest, Alberto, is 23 years old. He studied a technical degree in Accounting and is currently studying Business Administration, even though he likes sports and has taken courses as a physical trainer. He currently lives with his father in Italy, and I spend some time there and some time here in Cuba because my mother is already old, and although she is in good health, it has been many years.
"Julita, my two children whom you saw born at the Sagrado Corazón hospital in Vedado, are my two Olympic gold medals. Do you want better medals?"
