The Colombian airline Avianca announced that starting December 16, it will begin operating daily flights on the direct Bogotá-Havana route, in an effort to enhance connectivity between Colombia and Cuba.

The flights will be conducted on Airbus A320 aircraft, which have a capacity of 180 passengers, adding more than 2,500 available seats weekly on this route, which had been suspended last June "due to operational issues."

"We are happy to be able to land in Havana to close out this year with a new direct route that will allow millions of passengers to connect from different parts of the world with the history, cuisine, and culture of Havana, through Bogotá," said Avianca's sales director for Colombia and South America, David Alemán, as reported by the official Cuban agency Prensa Latina.

According to the itinerary, flight AV54 from Bogotá to Havana will depart at 12:35 and arrive at 16:00; while flight AV55 from Havana to Bogotá will leave at 17:10 and arrive in the Colombian capital at 20:25.

Tickets are now available through avianca.com, the airline's mobile app, its sales outlets, and travel agencies, Avianca announced in its statement.

Avianca announced in May its intention to resume flights from Havana starting July 2, with six weekly frequencies, using Airbus A320 aircraft that have a capacity of 180 passengers and offering "more than 2,100 seats per week."

But in June, the airline suspended the resumption of flights that were scheduled to start on July 2 and recommended that customers who had already purchased tickets request the corresponding refund.

The measure caused chaos on the island at that time, as dozens of families who had sold their belongings to leave the country were left stranded after Avianca's cancellation.
