Neighbors detain a fraud suspect on the streets of Santiago de Cuba.

The alleged offender was arrested on Reloj Street in downtown Santiago de Cuba.

A man was detained by neighbors in the heart of Santiago de Cuba after being accused of committing an alleged scam, according to reports shared on social media. The incident occurred on Reloj Street, between San Francisco and San Gerónimo, where residents intercepted the suspect and handed him over to the police.

Independent journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada reported on the case through a post that included a video showing the moment when police officers handcuff the detainee. However, no details have been disclosed so far regarding the identity of the individual or the exact nature of the crime.

In the shared images, several citizens can be seen surrounding the man while the police make the arrest, although there were no acts of violence by those present.

The incident has sparked comments on social media regarding the growing concern among citizens about scams and the trust in community action to address these issues.

In addition to reflecting a pattern of community actions that have intensified in Cuba, where citizens are organizing to confront criminal situations in response to the increasing perception of insecurity and a police response that, at times, proves to be insufficient.

This case is part of a series of recent incidents in which neighbors have taken it upon themselves to capture alleged criminals. In previous weeks, similar cases were reported in Havana and other cities, where citizens apprehended individuals involved in thefts and assaults.

The rising wave of scams, thefts, and assaults has raised alarms among citizens, who are increasingly turning to direct action to protect themselves and demand justice.
