The Government of Norway announced a contribution of $400,000 to assist in the recovery of the Guantánamo territories affected by Hurricane Oscar.

The information released by the embassy of that country on the island adds that the assistance is provided through the “Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF)” of the United Nations and the “Emergency Fund for Disaster Response” of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).

The note also emphasizes that "these resources will be allocated to address the most urgent needs."

This contribution joins existing initiatives from both international organizations and Cuban entities from the diaspora and within the island. Authorities have emphasized the need for international collaboration to address the devastating effects of this hurricane, which has resulted in eight confirmed fatalities, according to official figures, and left numerous families in conditions of extreme vulnerability.

The solidarity project "Aliento de Vida" recently sent over 500 pounds of donations to Guantánamo, including clothing, shoes, sheets, towels, food, and hygiene products, to support those affected by Hurricane Oscar.

The solidarity initiative "Huellas" also announced the shipment of a total of 300 boxes of donations for those affected in Guantánamo following Hurricane Oscar.

On the other hand, a shipment of 1,498 kilograms of medicines and medical supplies arrived in Cuba last Friday as part of UNICEF's assistance to support health services in the areas most affected by the hurricane.

According to a statement from the international organization, this initial donation aims to enhance healthcare for approximately 140,000 people, including pregnant women, children, and adolescents in the easternmost province of the Caribbean nation.

Additionally, a donation of tents arrived in Baracoa on Monday to support affected families. Furthermore, the United Nations (UN) stated that it aims to raise 33 million dollars to alleviate the damages caused by Oscar.
