Without evidence, the consul quickly dismisses Cubans among the victims of the flooding in Valencia

The consul is conducting a census based on calls to only 300 Cubans out of a total of 8,000 residing in Valencia and the Valencia Community.

The Cuban consul general in Spain, Alejandro Castro Medina, hurried on Friday to rule out the possibility of Cubans among the victims of the flooding in Valencia, despite only confirming the status of 300 emigrants from a total of 8,000 residing in the affected area.

In a post on X, the official claims that they contacted "300 Cubans living in the affected towns of Valencia. We do not mourn the loss of any fellow countryman."

"We are conveying to you that the Fatherland looks upon you with pride for the solidarity you are showing to your Valencian neighbors," stated Castro Medina.

However, the information is far from reliable. In Valencia, there are over 2,500 Cubans, and another 5,411 in the Valencian Community, including part of the CiberCuba team, and they claim that "no one from the embassy has contacted us."

In those territories, more than 200 people have died due to the floods in the past week, but local authorities state that the number of victims is much higher.

The latest report on Thursday stated 155 fatalities; however, in recent hours, the death toll has risen by nearly 60 as debris has been cleared and houses destroyed by the floods and heavy rains have been removed.
