The Cuban consul general in Spain, Alejandro Castro Medina, hurried on Friday to rule out the presence of Cubans among the victims of the flooding in Valencia, despite having only confirmed the status of 300 emigrants out of a total of 8,000 residing in the affected area.

In a post on X, the official states that they contacted "300 Cubans living in the affected towns of Valencia. We do not mourn the loss of any compatriot."

"We are conveying to you that the Homeland is proudly observing your solidarity with your Valencian neighbors," noted Castro Medina.

However, the information is far from reliable. In Valencia, there are over 2,500 Cubans, with another 5,411 in the Valencia Community, including part of the staff from CiberCuba, and they assert that "no one from the embassy has contacted us."

In those areas, more than 200 people have died due to the flooding in the past week, but local authorities claim the actual number of victims is much higher.

The latest update on Thursday reported 155 fatalities; however, in the past few hours, the death toll has risen by nearly 60 as debris has been cleared and houses destroyed by the rains and floods have been removed.
