The Gender Observatory Alas Tensas (OGAT) and the platform YoSíTeCreo (YSTCC) confirmed this Monday two new femicides in Cuba, bringing the total to 45 so far in 2024.
Through the social network X, organizations dedicated to observing and documenting cases of gender-based violence reported the death of Dianelis Veloz Hernández, 31 years old, who was attacked by her partner in public on October 28 in El Cerro, Havana.
The victim had just dropped off her children at the "Reinel Páez" Primary School, located at the intersection of Calzada de Buenos Aires and Consejero Arango, when she was intercepted by her ex-partner on the street, as reported by the news outlet La Tijera based on information from relatives of the assaulted woman.
They also announced the death of Yoannia (Yuyi) Hernández Pupo, 32 years old, who lost her life at the hands of a man with whom she had a relationship, in a public place where they were with a group of friends on the night of October 30, in the city of Holguín.
In addition to the 45 deaths, OGAT and YSTCC revealed that there were five other attempted femicides, while they are investigating a case per capita in the provinces of Las Tunas, Ciego de Ávila, Guantánamo, and Holguín, as well as two additional cases in Matanzas.
Likewise, it is known that two men have also been murdered for gender-related reasons.
