Moved by the difficult situation of those affected in San Antonio del Sur, a municipality in Guantanamo severely impacted by Hurricane Oscar, a Cuban entrepreneur dedicated to mattress manufacturing sought support to identify the most vulnerable individuals and donate some of his products to them.
Víctor Escalona explained last Thursday in the Facebook group "Revolico San Antonio del Sur" that he would be returning to that municipality "with new responsibilities and five additional mattresses to donate."
The young entrepreneur noted that, although he already had two people set to receive his donations, three mattresses were still available for the affected families.
"There are many people affected, in fact, from what I've seen, they are all. I can't do it alone, but little by little, with each trip where I donate five mattresses, we will take a step forward in helping those in need," Escalona stated.
"I produce to grow the economy of my work, but seeing this in San Antonio del Sur, I use my earnings to buy the raw materials for five or six mattresses to donate and cover the travel expenses," he explained.
Finally, he invited interested individuals to place orders or requests, or to reach out if they knew someone in need of a mattress donation, to contact him via his WhatsApp number (51095045).
In a previous post, the young man requested support for the people of San Antonio del Sur and expressed his sorrow over the devastation in that municipality of Guantanamo.
"I sincerely request support. As a self-employed worker, producer, and repairer of various items, including mattresses, I donated six mattresses to the government of San Antonio del Sur, as well as two more to families with children, along with a bed and five pairs of boots," the young man stated, inviting others to join in solidarity with those affected.
“Let us be one; we are human beings. There is nothing left, nothing, nothing,” he expressed urgently, hoping his message would reach the government of Camagüey.
He pointed out that this province has the capacity to produce thousands of beds and mattresses at the mechanical plant, and emphasized the importance of utilizing these resources to assist the most vulnerable.
"We must support those individuals, including children, the elderly, and people with disabilities. To see San Antonio del Sur at this moment is to witness a lost city," he added.
He expressed hope that the people receive the necessary assistance and are propelled forward, while reminding them of the importance of unity and solidarity among Cubans.
The damage that Hurricane Oscar caused in eastern Cuba is still unaddressed, and now the western region of the island is facing a new threat with the imminent arrival of Tropical Storm Rafael.
Considering the danger posed by the new meteorological phenomenon, the State Major of Civil Defense of Cuba decided to establish an alert phase on Monday for the provinces of Matanzas, Mayabeque, Havana, Artemisa, Pinar del Río, and the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud.
