Moved by the difficult situation of those affected in San Antonio del Sur, a municipality in Guantanamo severely impacted by Hurricane Oscar, a Cuban entrepreneur dedicated to mattress manufacturing sought support to identify the most vulnerable individuals and donate some of his products to them.

Víctor Escalona explained last Thursday in the Facebook group "Revolico San Antonio del Sur" that he would return to that municipality "with new responsibilities and five more mattresses to donate."

The young entrepreneur noted that, while he already had two people who would receive his donations, there were still three mattresses available for the affected families.

"There are many people affected, in fact, from what I've seen, it's everyone. I can't do it alone, but little by little, with each trip where I donate five mattresses, we will take a step forward in helping those in need," Escalona pointed out.

"I produce to help my work's economy grow, but seeing this in San Antonio del Sur, I use my profits to buy the raw materials for five or six mattresses to donate and cover the travel expenses," he explained.

Finally, he invited interested individuals to place orders or requests, or to reach out to him through his WhatsApp number (51095045) if they knew someone in need of a mattress donation.

In a previous post, the young man requested support for the population of San Antonio del Sur and expressed his sorrow over the devastation in that municipality in Guantanamo.

"I sincerely ask for support. As a self-employed worker, producer, and repairer of various items, including mattresses, I donated six mattresses to the government of San Antonio del Sur, along with two more to families with children, in addition to a bed and five pairs of boots," the young man stated, inviting others to join in showing solidarity with the affected.

"Let us be one, we are human beings. There is nothing left, nothing, nothing," he expressed urgently, hoping his message would reach the government of Camagüey.

He pointed out that this province has the capacity to produce thousands of beds and mattresses in the mechanical plant, and emphasized the importance of using these resources to assist the most vulnerable.

"We must support those people: children, the elderly, and those with disabilities. Seeing San Antonio del Sur at this moment is like witnessing a lost city," he added.

He expressed his hope that the people receive the necessary assistance and are propelled forward, recalling the importance of unity and solidarity among Cubans.

The damages that Hurricane Oscar caused in eastern Cuba, which have yet to be recovered, are now compounded by the threat facing the western region of the island due to the imminent arrival of Tropical Storm Rafael.

Considering the danger posed by the new weather phenomenon, the Civil Defense General Staff of Cuba decided to establish an alert phase on Monday for the provinces of Matanzas, Mayabeque, Havana, Artemisa, Pinar del Río, and the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud.
