Former President Donald Trump has achieved a historic victory in Miami-Dade County, becoming the first Republican presidential candidate to win in this Democratic stronghold since 1988, when then-President George H. W. Bush did so during his reelection.
With 95% of the votes counted, Trump is leading against his Democratic rival, Vice President Kamala Harris, with 55% of the support in the county, known for its large immigrant population and a strong Cuban community.
At the state level, its advantage is even greater, reaching 56% of the votes, according to the preliminary results.
Miami-Dade, the most populous county in Florida and traditionally seen as a stronghold for Democrats, has experienced a significant shift in its political landscape in recent years.
In the 2016 elections, Hillary Clinton won by a margin of 30 points in this county. However, in 2020, Joe Biden's victory in Miami-Dade was much closer, with a difference of only seven points.
The shift to the right in Miami-Dade has been a key factor in Trump's rise in South Florida, where he has received strong support from the Cuban-American community, as well as from other conservative voter groups.
This shift in trends has become established in this electoral cycle, where Trump has demonstrated a strong ability to mobilize voters from the area.
