A house in Centro Habana experienced a complete roof collapse following the passage of Hurricane Rafael.
The incident occurred at 510 Santiago Street, between Salud and Jesús Peregrino.
Images sent to CiberCuba illustrate the extent of the disaster: the house, located on the ground floor, still retains its walls and its barred door and windows; however, the remnants of the roof, along with some furniture, are in the middle of the street waiting to be collected.
Fortunately, according to a witness of the incident, there were no injuries.
"They got trapped, and the rescuers came. The problem was the house next door, which was very dilapidated, and the entire wall fell onto the roof of the adjacent house. What a scare, my God," she recounted.
At least 461 total or partial collapses were recorded in Havana due to the impact of the powerful Hurricane Rafael.
"Havana was strongly impacted," stated Governor Yanet Hernández at a press conference, specifying that the damage to homes and other buildings included fallen walls, stairs, and detached lightweight coverings. However, she did not disclose the total number of collapses that occurred.
On the night of November 6th, there was a collapse on Consulado Street, between Refugio and Genios, in Central Havana.
The collapse occurred around 8:00 PM, while strong gusts of wind and light rain lashed the city. The area, like other parts of the capital, was experiencing a complete blackout.
A neighbor commented on journalist Alberto Arego's Facebook post that she had heard a deafening roar. "I'm still traumatized by that noise."
Fortunately, there were no casualties, and the firefighters quickly arrived at the scene to secure the area.
