At least 157 educational institutions were affected in Artemisa by Hurricane Rafael, which struck the western Cuban region on Wednesday.
According to the General Director of Education in Artemisa, Yaroby Álvarez, the province is experiencing issues in almost all educational institutions, particularly with the roofs.
"The deterioration of partial and total coverings, as well as the carpentry and waterproof roofs, are the main concerns," noted the executive in a thread on X.
He also stated that some alternatives will be implemented to resume classes next Monday, as announced by the regime.
Among these alternatives, changes in schedules, adjustments to facilities, the relocation of students to nearby institutions, and work in sessions, among others, are anticipated, he noted.
The Ministry of Education (MINED) of Cuba announced the day before that classes will resume on November 11 in the western and central provinces, after being suspended since Monday due to the approach of Rafael.
However, the statement clarified that educational institutions that suffered significant damage from Hurricane Rafael and have not been repaired in time will be excluded from this measure.
In a television appearance, Naima Trujillo Barreto, Minister of Education, stated that the damage to educational infrastructure is specific and mainly consists of the detachment of waterproof membranes and roof coverings.
