On November 8, friends of El Taiger initiated a petition demanding that the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office upgrade the charges against Damián Valdez-Galloso to first-degree murder in connection with the homicide of the Cuban reggaeton artist.
Teresa Padrón, manager of El Taiger, shared a link to this petition on her Instagram profile: “My people, please let’s sign and share the petition to seek justice for José.”
The document requests that the authorities change the charge from second-degree murder to first-degree murder, something that even Judge Mindy S. Glazer questioned during the defendant's first appearance in court, where bail was denied.
"José was torn from his family, including his four children, under brutal and premeditated circumstances. However, the current charge of second-degree murder does not fully reflect the severity and intent of this crime. This classification minimizes the loss suffered by the family, friends, and community of José Manuel Carvajal, and we ask that Damián Valdez-Galloso be held appropriately accountable," the petition states.
At the time of writing this note, the petition aiming for a total of 15,000 signatures had already surpassed 12,000.
