More than six days after Hurricane Rafael passed through the western region of Cuba, the situation in Havana remains complicated, with thousands of residents without electricity due to the damage caused by the weather phenomenon.
However, the Electric Company of Havana reported on Facebook that, to date, 95% of the city has regained electrical service for the benefit of over 823,000 customers.
In fact, sources close to CiberCuba confirmed that even in residential areas like Kholy, the electricity supply has not been restored, and crews have had to trim trees to carry out their work.
"The rehabilitation process continues in municipalities such as Playa, La Lisa, Arroyo Naranjo, and Boyeros, where some more complex damages persist. In these areas, seven teams from different regions of the country support recovery efforts, which helps to expedite the work," he wrote.
Additionally, it was reported that the restoration of electricity has enabled 39 hospitals to have power, which has been crucial for patient care. Furthermore, water supply has been provided to nine key sources located in areas such as Paso Seco, Palatino, and Casa Blanca.
Regarding the electrical networks, the transmission and sub-transmission circuits have already achieved a 100% restoration, while the primary distribution circuits are progressing with a recovery rate close to 95%.
"The Electric Company of Havana continues to work tirelessly to ensure the complete restoration of electrical service in the capital," it was stated, despite the long road ahead in some affected areas.
Despite the effort, power outages continue across the country due to failures and a generation deficit, a situation that worsens the daily lives of Cuban families.
