Through social media, a group of residents from Santiago made a beautiful gesture of solidarity on Monday by coming together to help a child in need of shoes.
In the Facebook group "Bazar Santiago de Cuba," user Isis Lescay shared the touching moment when the child was given two pairs of shoes.
Lescay emphasized in her post that two people assisted the child, and that she personally delivered the shoes to ensure the transparency of the charitable act. “God multiplies good deeds. Blessings to everyone,” she added.
The internet user shared a message from one of the donors, who offered valuable advice to the child: "Don't despair. Take life easy, don't get involved in crime, and always stay on the right path, as life will reward you."
The donor also expressed his desire to continue helping, assuring that he would calmly search through his belongings to see if he could contribute something more, such as clothing and other necessary items, and added: “Tell him to enjoy it.”
In a previous post, the user had sought help for the child, appealing to the community's solidarity: "This child needs assistance; he has no shoes or enough clothes. Collaboration is needed to help him," she wrote, also noting that he wears size #41.
Additionally, Lescay invited anyone interested in obtaining more details about the child to contact her via private message or at the number +5351805902.
The crisis in Cuba leaves behind heart-wrenching images, such as children without clothes or shoes, but it also inspires moving scenes of solidarity.
Last October, a young man from Santiago, who dedicates his income to caring for his ill parents, sought help on social media to obtain a pair of shoes, and his request received supportive backing from the community.
Rosa Bella explained in the Facebook group "Bazar Santiago de Cuba" that the young man to whom she donated several pairs of shoes does not suffer from any psychiatric condition or illness; rather, he works honestly and dedicates his salary to taking care of his mother and his father, who is ill.
In July, the Cuban Observatory for Human Rights presented the VII Report on the State of Social Rights in Cuba 2024, featuring revealing results about the Cuban reality.
The non-governmental organization highlighted in the document that "89% of Cuban families are suffering from extreme poverty," which is one percentage point higher than last year and 13% more than in 2022.
One of the most significant pieces of data highlights that “7 out of 10 Cubans have stopped having breakfast, lunch, or dinner due to a lack of money or food shortages.”
