Ten people were injured and at least 3,752 buildings were damaged as a result of the 6 and 6.7 magnitude earthquakes that struck southeastern Cuba last Sunday, according to the government report updated this Tuesday.

During the National Defense Council session, which included the participation of leader Miguel Díaz-Canel, it was reported that the injured individuals and a majority of the affected buildings are concentrated in the province of Granma, as announced by the official profile of the Presidency of Cuba on the social network X.

In that province, the number of people injured by the earthquakes has risen to 10, while the damage to infrastructure totals 3,518, including 54 total collapses.

In Santiago de Cuba, the second most affected province, the recovery of health, education, and housing institutions has begun, with a total of 234 homes impacted in this last category.

In the meantime, the aftershocks of the earthquakes continue, with 2,300 tremors recorded, of which at least 78 were felt in the eastern region since the two strong seismic events last Sunday.

Vicente de la O Levy, Minister of Energy and Mines, announced that all municipalities affected by the earthquakes are now receiving electricity, and the water pumping and communications in the area have also been restored.

A previous report indicated that the earthquakes left seven injured in Granma and affected at least 2,018 homes, of which 26 were total collapses.

During the National Defense Council meeting this Tuesday, it was reported that the electrical restoration efforts in Artemisa, following Hurricane Rafael, are particularly complex. So far, they have been able to cover only 4.58% of the population, with 425 operational generators in essential locations and 16 teams of electrical technicians working in the area.
