Fort Lauderdale authorities warned residents and tourists about a fraud involving fake QR codes attached to parking meters and "Pay By Phone" signs.
These stickers appear to be legitimate as they include logos from recognized applications, but they redirect users to fraudulent websites designed to steal financial information after visiting a car park.
The counterfeit codes were detected during routine inspections, according to city officials.
In light of this situation, the police recommend making payments only through official parking meters or the authorized applications specified in the urban signage.
Safety Tips:
- Make sure to scan only the QR codes printed on the city's official signs, avoiding stickers.
- Most parking lots use the "Pay By Phone" app, while the electric charging stations and the garage of the Arts and Sciences District operate with "ParkMobile."
- Avoid using GooglePay QR codes, as they are not accepted in Fort Lauderdale.
- Report any suspicious QR code to 954-828-8000, on the website fortlauderdale.gov/fixitftl, or through the FixItFTL app.
- If it has beenvictim of a scamPlease contact your local Police Department.
