"Housekeeping Doesn't Rest on Weekends": Latina in Texas Talks About What "No One Says" About Working in Hotels

"In fact, the days we work the most are the weekends."

A TikTok user named Damaris Ferrell held nothing back in a recent video where she discussed what many housekeeping staff in hotels prefer not to say.

"Housekeeping doesn't take weekends off; we never rest on weekends," she stated firmly at the beginning of her remarks, where she explained that Saturdays and Sundays are the busiest days, characterized by exhausting shifts and physically demanding work. "They assign us about seven double rooms, not to mention the regular ones, and guests always use both beds, which makes things really challenging," @dmaris.ferrell—who, according to her online information, lives in Texas—added while describing how sometimes even her coworkers struggle with the workload.

The creator, who regularly shares content about her work experiences, also highlighted how difficult it is for many to request a day off. "If we want to rest, we almost have to beg for a weekend," she noted with frustration.

The video, ironically titled “What We Keep Quiet as Housekeeping,” not only garnered thousands of likes but also sparked a wave of comments from women who resonated with it. One user noted, “I’ve been working for 20 years and I don’t have a single Sunday off,” while another shared, “Sometimes on Sundays I have to clean up to 18 rooms, and we don’t finish until 10 at night.” Many agreed that weekends are the busiest days, but also the most thankless: “Guests leave the rooms incredibly dirty and don’t even leave a tip,” remarked another.

The conversation grew more intense when some hotel workers discussed favoritism and privileges. "Only the boss's favorites get to rest on weekends, and that's if they want to," wrote one user. Meanwhile, another commented that "nobody speaks up because those who complain are pressured until they leave on their own."

Damaris did not shy away from the topic, responding with sarcasm to one of the criticisms: "Some say I complain too much, but staying quiet changes nothing." The creator hopes that her testimony will highlight the working conditions many face and how challenging it is to raise one's voice without fear of repercussions.
