Following the earthquakes that occurred on November 10, which caused significant damage to the school infrastructure in Pilón, located in Granma province, around 350 children have had to relocate to a temporary school set up in a military base with the support of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR).

Journalist Jorge Luis Ríos Frías reported on Facebook that the new center, named “Amiguitos de las FAR,” accommodates students from the seminternado Augusto César Sandino, one of the institutions most affected.

Ríos stated that the location has the necessary conditions to ensure the quality of the teaching process, highlighting that the tents, now converted into classrooms, aim to secure the continuity of the educational process. In his words, this represents "a priority for the educational sector of the municipality."

“With this initiative, the FAR, in clear cooperation, reaffirms its commitment to promote the development and well-being of the Cuban people,” stated the regime's spokesperson journalist.

Meanwhile, the families of the children hope that repairs to the damaged schools progress quickly, in order to provide students with a more stable and suitable environment for their education.

Since November 10th, when a precursor earthquake of magnitude 6.0 and a main earthquake of 6.7 struck the region, particularly the municipality of Pilón in Granma, the population has faced days filled with uncertainty and fear.

On Thursday, a magnitude 4.0 earthquake was recorded, which, fortunately, did not cause any material damage or loss of life, but was felt in the province of Granma, especially in the municipality of Pilón, located just 19 kilometers from the epicenter.

A week after the powerful earthquakes shook eastern Cuba, the residents of Pilón are facing a challenging reality: they continue to live in tents while dealing with uncertainty, fear, and a lack of basic resources.

The government set up tent houses to shelter affected families, a decision that faced criticism for its limited scope and the lack of attention to other equally impacted communities.

So far, the earthquakes have resulted in ten people injured and at least 3,752 damaged buildings, according to official government figures.
