The sinking of a Cuban vessel heading to the United States resulted in at least two deaths, including a minor.

Seventeen-year-old Alejandro Peñafuerte and William Tamayo Tuñon, the father of two children, both from Matanzas, are currently the confirmed victims of the tragic event.

Messages of condolence from the victims' families have been shared on social media.

"I'm filled with sorrow, my brother. This should have never happened to you. My dream was to wait for you here and be able to hug you tightly. I will always carry you in my heart," expressed user Jesús Alberto on Facebook, brother of William Tamayo and resident of Miami.

Alejandro's family mourned the tragic end of the teenager.

"I still don’t have the words for this; whatever I say feels inadequate right now, but I hope you are in the most beautiful place in heaven and that you will never be forgotten. I will always carry you within me, and these words are etched on my heart (I will look for you in heaven, Ale). I hope that becomes a reality," wrote his brother Yandry Pérez from Texas.

"Much sadness and pain in our hearts; imagine mine as a mother, just starting to live. I would give my life for his. It’s a sorrow for both families, but we will always carry him in our hearts, and wherever he is, a kiss from this mother who loves you," added Yanelys González García.

"EPD Wilito and Alejandro, life dealt us a bad hand, my brothers, what more can we say if everyone knows what great people you both were; may God have you in glory," expressed Elieser Arruez from West Palm Beach.
