A Cuban citizen has been sentenced in Panama for crimes related to the forgery of documents and violations of customs regulations.
The incident occurred on November 21, when the man arrived at Panama Pacific International Airport on a flight from Havana.
Upon his arrival in the country, authorities detected irregularities in his customs declaration.
Although he was carrying $10,893, the man declared only a portion of that amount, which raised suspicions with the authorities.
The Regional Prosecutor's Office of Panama Oeste, through the Section of Crimes against Public Faith, led the investigations that resulted in the indictment of the accused.
Additionally, it was discovered that he had submitted false documentation, which worsened his legal situation.
During the hearing, prosecutor Claribel Miranda presented the evidence that demonstrated the defendant's responsibility in the case.
These findings included fraudulent documents and undeclared money. Based on this, the presiding judge, Yorlenis Rodríguez, sanctioned the arrest of the accused.
A plea agreement was validated that established several measures against the Cuban.
The payment of a fine of 700 USD in lieu of a 16-month prison sentence.
The seizure of 893 dollars that he was carrying and did not properly declare.
His immediate deportation and the permanent prohibition of entry to Panama.
The Public Ministry—who did not disclose the identity of the accused Cuban—stressed the importance of this case as part of efforts to safeguard public trust and ensure compliance with the law in that Central American country.
As of the closure of this note, no further details about the case have emerged.
