The young Cuban woman Yisle, known as @yisleblogs on TikTok, is winning laughs and likes online after sharing her experience preparing for Thanksgiving in Louisville, Kentucky. In her video, she starts with a basic yet essential piece of advice: “Mama, let’s go get the Thanksgiving turkey, because three years ago I ran out of time and had to settle for turkey breast.”
With her characteristic sense of humor, Yisle jokes about how challenging it is to keep everything under control: her house, her son Caleb, and the "responsibilities I took on." She shares how this time she got ahead of the game and went to the supermarket on Monday to avoid running out of turkey, recalling that in the United States, rather than abundance, what dominates this season are empty shelves if you arrive late. She was, however, astonished by the prices: "I bought three marked-up items and spent almost $70; I’m still trying to figure out where that money went because it’s shocking."
Yisle also takes the opportunity to reflect on how her life has changed since she arrived in the United States, admitting that she used to be more relaxed and now she is always on edge. Even so, she adds a touch of humor about her daily life with her son: “Caleb can’t feel a door because he runs through it immediately; that kid drinks more milk than a calf.”
Yisle's followers quickly reacted. Comments such as "I'm also going to buy the turkey today," "Mommy, Caleb is the king of the street," and "The other day I saw you at your door, the world is small" filled the post with love and laughter. One user even wrote: "I like your videos before watching them."
In addition to showcasing her turkey buying process, Yisle invited her followers to share how they celebrate Thanksgiving: “Tell me, do you make turkey at home? Give me ideas, I’ll definitely share mine.” And as always, she ended her video with that charm of hers: “This body doesn’t live on prayers, darling, I’m going to make lunch.”
With Thanksgiving just around the corner, Yisle's message is clear: it's better to get a head start on finding the turkey before it's too late, and to do so with good humor, even if the prices at the grocery store are anything but amusing.
