The overflowing of the Serones stream at the Mayarí detour has disrupted traffic on the Central Highway, which connects Holguín with Moa, amid persistent rains affecting the eastern region of Cuba.

According to reports from Periódico Ahora and Radio Mayarí on the social media platform Facebook, the rainfall recorded between 6:00 and 8:00 in the morning also resulted in accumulations of 50 mm in the diversion channel and in the local dam, prompting authorities to open two gates to relieve the water flow.

This also caused the Cabañas River to rise, raising concerns about potential floods, while the evacuation committee is already in the Pedro Sotto Alba neighborhood, which has been classified as at risk, to organize the evacuation of residents to safe locations if the situation worsens.

Camilo Velazco Petittón, director of the station "La Voz del Níquel," stated that in the Veguita neighborhood, the Moa River has also overflowed its banks, covering the bridge that provides access to the community, although no direct impacts to residents have been reported.

For these reasons, close monitoring is maintained at critical points, and drivers are urged to take extra precautions due to the impact of the rain.

It is worth noting that the Institute of Meteorology of the island had announced the occurrence of isolated showers and rainfall in the eastern part of the country.

On November 26, the municipality of Moa, located in the province of Holguín, experienced flooding due to torrential rains that even necessitated the evacuation of residents in the Ecrin neighborhood. The heavy rainfall caused the Cabaña and Moa rivers to overflow.
