They are requesting assistance to repatriate the remains of Cubans who died in an accident in Suriname

The families of Miguel Ángel Rojas Vázquez and Yoel Sánchez, who passed away in a traffic accident in Suriname, need assistance in repatriating their remains to Cuba.

Distraught by the pain, family and friends of Miguel Ángel Rojas Vázquez and Yoel Sánchez, who died in a tragic traffic accident in Suriname last week, are seeking financial assistance to repatriate their remains to Cuba.

Rojas, originally from Holguín, married and with a daughter just over a year old, and Sánchez, from Santiago de Cuba and father to several children, lost their lives in a multiple-vehicle accident in the city of Paramaribo on Saturday morning while riding an electric motorcycle. They were struck by a car whose driver made a reckless overtaking maneuver on the road.

As a result of the collision, Sánchez died at the scene due to his injuries, and Rojas was taken to a hospital for urgent medical attention, but later passed away.

The Rojas family is trying to raise the necessary funds to repatriate his body and give him a final farewell in Cuba, while Sánchez will be cremated and his ashes sent to the island, according to sources close to his circle.

“I am creating this account to raise funds to repatriate the body of our brother Miguel Ángel Rojas Vázquez, better known as Miguelito, the son of Doralis, who passed away today in a traffic accident in the Republic of Suriname. His family and friends would like to give him a final farewell. Please contribute what you can; you will be eternally grateful,” requested Segundo Leyva, who is organizing the fundraiser on the GoFundMe platform. The goal is to raise $8,000.

Rojas had emigrated to Suriname in February of this year. His wife, Liannis Acosta Silva, requested support on social media to bring his body back to their homeland.

“I told him every day how beautiful he was, even though the fatigue and exhaustion were evident on his face. I knew that the sadness of not being with his loved ones was consuming him. I tried all the time to lift his spirits and give him strength; we would be together soon, and he wouldn’t miss out on all the beautiful things learned by our daughter, our beautiful daughter. I just need to bring him back with me again; please donate to fulfill his last wish. I beg you,” she wrote.

In another heart-wrenching post on Facebook, the young woman recalled that her husband would have turned a year older on December 3 and revealed that they were supposed to meet in Suriname in the coming days, a meeting that fate has now prevented due to his death.

“There were just a few days left until I could be by his side again, to show him all the things I managed to teach our daughter,” she expressed. “Today is his birthday, and I’m sure he would have celebrated it with the joy that defined him, always wearing that beautiful smile that spread to everyone around him. He was so charismatic and pleasant that he had an entire community devoted to him wherever he was; he was a being of light, a truly special person.”

The terrible accident has also plunged Sánchez's children and the rest of the family into deep sorrow.

"Man, dad, I love you so much no matter where you are, and always remember that I will finish what you started one day so that you can be proud of me. I love you with all my heart, even though you were taken from my life, but in my heart, you will always have your special place to sit on your throne, my king. Rest well, my lord," wrote his son Joelito Sánchez Brito in the comments on the accident news published by CiberCuba.

On TikTok, the young Cuban who goes by Soy el Krizz, residing in Suriname, called on Cubans to support the families of both victims.

In Sánchez's case, the young man explained in a video that his brother, who also lives in the South American country, needs assistance to cover the costs of cremating the body and sending the ashes to Cuba.

He urged the Cubans residing in that country to contribute to the expenses of the cremation and the transportation of the remains.

On social media, friends and acquaintances of Sánchez and Rojas have conveyed heartfelt messages of sorrow and condolences to their families.
