Sandro Castro, the most rebellious of the Castro family, finally celebrated his controversial birthday party on Thursday night at his EFE Bar in El Vedado.
The honoree did not hesitate to share on Instagram Stories a photo of the outfit they chose for the occasion, where guests were requested to dress in white.
In his case, he added a black jacket to his outfit and his usual glasses, which give him that little mobster look.
"Thank you to everyone for coming, wonderful, humble people, my great Cuba," reads a caption alongside a brief selfie video in which he is seen posing with those present, during which he can be heard singing a conga.
Although Sandro promised it would be "the biggest party in years," the truth is that the couple of short videos shared by the honoree on Instagram don’t convey that feeling; perhaps he didn't capture the liveliest or most crowded moment of the event, but the place didn’t look full.
In fact, the birthday celebration in June for his friend Carluchín (Carlos Rogelio Bolufé) seemed more lively and had more attendees, judging by the video shared at that time by the honoree.
Sandro's birthday party, scheduled for 10:00 pm on December 5, has sparked immense controversy on social media, where thousands of Cubans in various forums questioned the extravagance of the event, which had been announced with great fanfare days in advance, coinciding with the third mass blackout in Cuba in less than two months.
The entrance fee for the party was 1,000 CUP, and the minimum consumption at a table was 15,000, but Carluchín had previously warned that everything was sold out. That same day, the young man – who is a close friend of Sandro – complained that the haters “mix everything with politics.”
Although Sandro may not be a favorite among thousands of Cubans, a heartfelt greeting from an American photographer close to "the family" can be found among the Instagram stories of the EFE bar this Friday, describing Sandro as a "special man."
"Today is the day when I, along with many others, celebrate the birth of a man who is special to us in many ways. A boy born on an island in a family with many branches on its family tree, with deep roots that will never be lost or forgotten. I have known this particular branch of the tree closely for many years, and today I celebrate a man, not for what he has done through his work over the years, some of whom still do not see him in the streets of Havana or in other places abroad," says this American close to the Castros.
In the second part of his message, @saltvip (Scott Crowe) did not hesitate to use the term "empire" to describe what surrounds Sandro Castro and his family.
"Today I celebrate my friend who introduced me to his mother; I saw the resemblance in her smile that I have known for years. I celebrate my friend who offered jobs to close friends, and now I see them thriving in Spain, the United States, Mexico, and Cuba, because at some point in his growth, he provided them with the opportunity to flourish like a tree nourished by deep roots. Today, to my great friend, my brother, and my family, I wish a happy birthday. Keep growing, keep appreciating those who help you build your empire, and as your favorite brand says, Just Do It!" he concluded.
This is not the first time that Sandro Castro has stirred up controversy with his showy displays.
