A modern car was the victim of a dramatic fire on Monday night at the intersection of 19 and 84 in the Havana municipality of Playa. The incident resulted in only material damage.
A video circulated on social media showed that, despite the intense flames, the quick and supportive intervention of several people with buckets of water helped extinguish the fire completely and relatively easily.
The causes of the incident have not been disclosed, which adds to a growing number of similar events reported across the country in recent months.
On social media, several users have come together to praise the timely and effective intervention of those who threw several buckets of water at the vehicle.
Some did not miss the opportunity to ironically emphasize the good fortune of having "water," a resource that is scarce in many areas of the capital.
As of the time of this report, there are no further details regarding the incident.
In recent years, Cuba has seen an increase in vehicle fires on public roads. Although electric motorcycles undoubtedly receive the most attention for these incidents, numerous cars and even buses have also caught fire.
Although the specific investigations for each case may vary, common factors have been identified that could contribute to these fires: electrical failures; inadequate maintenance, along with a lack of spare parts and resources for proper vehicle upkeep, can increase the risk of mechanical and electrical failures.
Another factor that increases the likelihood of fires like this one is modifications or repairs done without the supervision of qualified professionals.
