There are things that don't change, even if you are thousands of kilometers away from your homeland. A Cuban woman living in Italy was left in shock when she found her mother, broom in hand, sweeping the entrance of the building.
"Who told you that voluntary work is done here? This isn't a CDR!" her daughter exclaimed, bursting into laughter and disbelief, unable to resist capturing the moment on video. User @ari.cuba27 shared the clip on her social media, showcasing how her mother took the cleaning of the area seriously. With a bag ready to collect dry leaves and trash, the lady made it clear that wherever she goes, she brings her hardworking spirit along.
The scene was a blend of humor and nostalgia for those who recognize the essence of Cuban mothers, who "can't relax without a broom nearby." In the video, while the daughter urged her to "stop cleaning" and joked about hiring her to clean the whole hillside, the mother remained undeterred in her mission.
The reactions to the clip came in quickly. Users commented with laughter and affection: “Cubans are clean, and that’s something no one can take away from us, even if we live at the end of the world”; “Let her be, she feels useful and has the environment clean”; “Only we Cubans do that, we always have to be doing something”; “I wish I had seen the water throwing, that was the only thing missing!”
Some shared their experiences: “I’m in Uruguay and my mother does the same, she starts sweeping the hallway of the building”; while others watched the video with nostalgia: “God bless your mom, I miss mine so much.”
No matter where a Cuban mother is, the instinct to "clean up after others" remains intact. As one user aptly put it: "This is the only good thing that our Cuban identity has left us."
