A driver refused to help a child who was involved in a traffic accident and was left unconscious in the street.

The incident occurred in front of the Ñola Sahig Sainz School of Arts in Ciego de Ávila, where a 10-year-old boy suffered a bicycle accident with his father and lost consciousness due to a severe head injury.

According to a report on his Facebook wall by freelancer Guillermo Rodríguez Sánchez, teachers from the center, other students, and several passersby stopped a car to take the child to the hospital, but the driver refused.

Despite the pleas, despite begging him to at least take the child to the nearest clinic, the driver held his ground, started the engine, and drove away, leaving the boy unconscious in the street.

"Well, buddy, a parent took a picture of your car, and I’m sharing it here so you can feel the weight of public shame. Oh, and you’re being sought for charges; there are many witnesses to what you did," Rodríguez Sánchez said, addressing the driver.

Finally, the author of the post revealed that the injured minor is currently hospitalized under care; he is doing well, all things considered, although he has a concerning contusion on his skull.

The news generated a plethora of criticism among internet users, although there are some who argue that in such accidents, the best course of action is not to move the injured person and to wait for an ambulance.

"What that driver did is explicitly classified in the penal code as a crime of abandoning minors or vulnerable individuals. With that license plate, I am almost certain it will show up, of course, as long as the police intend to pursue it," stated a lawyer from Camagüey.

"Unfortunately, not everyone is willing to help others. I imagine they think they will never need anything or anyone. That's a mistake! Because in this life, we all stumble at some point, and I'm not going to call it karma; I refer to it as divine justice, especially when it involves an innocent..." stated a mother.

A journalist disagreed and recalled that those who suffer from cranial trauma do not move without medical or paramedical assistance, as this can endanger their lives or compromise their recovery.

"This post would not be relevant in a country with ambulances or with freedom of expression to protest against those who have left the country without ambulances," he emphasized.

She met a young man who claimed that outside of Cuba, it is advised to wait for paramedics because people who do not know how to administer first aid, even if they want to help, can worsen the injury.

"To what point has Cuban society come that they repudiate a private individual for not acting as an ambulance when hospitals are also lacking, and no one says anything? The idea of 'denial of assistance' only exists in communism," he emphasized.
