The Community Social Project "Luz de Vida" faced a bitter experience last Monday in the Plaza municipality of Havana, when a portion of a stew intended for vulnerable individuals was reported stolen.
Eusebio Díaz, a member of the project, reported in the Facebook group "Community Social Project 'Luz de Vida'" that the event took place at the restaurant La Pelota, renowned for its central location in the city.
He emphasized that the activity was planned to initially benefit 100 people and that it received the collaboration of delegate Niurka from the Colón Nuevo Vedado Council, who arranged for the distribution of sweets to complement the event.
From the very beginning, the atmosphere was filled with solidarity, with people surprised and grateful to learn that the food was completely free.
"Everything was going wonderfully; people were repeating it because they loved it, and those with a wandering spirit were happy, content, and grateful," Díaz recounted.
However, the event took an unexpected turn when, upon returning to the kitchen, the organizers discovered that part of the stew had been taken by unknown individuals.
This loss meant that at least 40 people were left without their meal: “We have suffered a great disappointment. It is a reprehensible act and has no excuse,” said Díaz, clearly affected by the incident.
The project expressed its deep regret over the situation and apologized to those who were unable to receive assistance, announcing that they will not hold any activities at that location again due to what occurred.
Despite the incident, the initiative remains committed to the community and reaffirms its mission to assist those in greatest need, relying on the support and solidarity of the citizens.
These days, activists from various provinces have launched solidarity initiatives to benefit those who, abandoned by the regime, are suffering from hunger and scarcity.
A group of volunteers in Cárdenas distributed food and desserts donated by local residents and businesses, highlighting community solidarity and collective effort during a Christmas marked by economic crisis.
In Santiago de Cuba, the San Pedro Mission, located in Reparto Flores, hosted a solidarity lunch last Saturday for 200 people, including those who were unable to attend due to health issues.
In that same province, a group of activists and volunteers, led by writer Yasser Sosa Tamayo and pastor Darlon Bermúdez, managed to bring a ray of hope to 150 needy individuals in Santiago de Cuba.
