Four members of the same family from Holguín, two of them minors, tragically died early Saturday morning when the vehicle they were traveling in collided with a truck on the Carretera Central.
The tragic accident occurred near a location known as "Los Hoyos," in the municipality of Majagua, Ciego de Ávila, according to a witness who shared the information in the Facebook group Accidentes Buses & Camiones, while keeping their identity anonymous.
"Please, if you are exhausted, don't drive," advised the internet user, who shared shocking images showing the state of the light vehicle after the crash.
In one of the photos, it could be seen how the car's engine completely detached from the body, which was fully crushed by the force of the impact.
Regarding the cause of the accident, a user in the group commented that it seems "the occupants of the light vehicle fell asleep."
It is not clear whether the deceased were a couple and their two children, or if they had another relationship with each other. However, several acquaintances of the family have pointed out that they were from the town of Alto Cedro, in the Cueto municipality of Holguín.
It is truly upsetting to note that the victims, who apparently were coming from Havana, were carrying money intended for purchasing a vehicle, cash that was taken from them after the accident.
"What frustrates me the most is that people take advantage of opportunities... The money they brought to buy the car was stolen," wrote Lizardo Almaguer.
"Rest in Peace. I was there, and the real image is nothing like the photo. In the sense that seeing it in person is striking. My condolences to the family," wrote Dariel Miranda.
A post in the Facebook group "Automobile Accidents in Cuba" reported the incident at kilometer 446 of the Central Highway, in Ciego de Ávila, between the towns of Guayacanes and Jicotea.
That witness insisted that all the occupants of the light vehicle died, although he was mistaken in labeling the car that the family was traveling in as a tour vehicle, as it apparently was a private vehicle.
As of the publication of this report, there are no further details regarding the tragic accident.
