The elected president of the United States, Donald Trump, claimed that Canada should become part of his country following the recent resignation of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Trump stated that Canada should become the 51st state and that Trudeau knew this, which is why he announced his resignation.

"Many people in Canada would LOVE to be the 51st state. The United States can no longer bear the huge trade deficits and the subsidies that Canada needs to stay afloat. Justin Trudeau knew this and resigned," he said on his social network Truth Social.

"If Canada joined the United States, there would be no tariffs, taxes would drop significantly, and they would be COMPLETELY SAFE from the constant threat of Russian and Chinese ships surrounding them. Together, what a great nation we would be!" he expressed.

In response, Justin Trudeau was emphatic in stating that "never, ever" will Canada integrate into the United States.

"There is not the slightest possibility that Canada will become part of the United States," he replied on the social media platform X.

"The workers and communities of both countries benefit from being each other's largest trade and security partner. Never, ever will Canada be part of the United States," he added.

According to a report by EFE, the first time Trump proposed his idea was during a dinner with Trudeau at Mar-a-Lago on November 29.

In recent days, he has spoken about the topic several times, and he even stated that he would use "economic force" to achieve his goal. "You eliminate that artificially drawn line and see how it looks, and it would also be much better for national security," he noted.

Trump announced that he will impose a 25% tariff on all products coming from the neighboring country to the north if it does not stop the flow of migrants and drugs into U.S. territory. For this reason, Trudeau traveled to Mar-a-Lago in December to try to convince him not to fulfill his promise and to ease the trade tensions between the two countries.

Last Monday, Trudeau announced that he will resign after more than nine years as Prime Minister and that he will step down as leader of the Liberal Party, following a sustained decline in his popularity and a stalemate in Parliament.

Trump has frequently attacked him on social media, referring to him as the "governor" of the 51st state of the United States.
